As results of the international Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) show, the quality of life of elderly people, and their health and welfare are closely related to socioeconomic circumstances in childhood. The study analyses the impact of population ageing on economics, employment, healthcare, social policy and other factors that determine the development of the country. From 5 to 7 September, researchers representing 28 European countries and Israel met in the Small Guild in Rīga.
From 3 to 7 September the 46th Congress of the International Society for the History of Medicine (ISHM) was held in Lisbon. Professor Juris Salaks and Assistant Professor Ieva Lībiete from the RSU Institute of the History of Medicine were among the delegates at the congress, whereas RSU rector Professor Aigars Pētersons was invited as an honorary guest.

As part of their clinical studies, RSU Faculty of Dentistry students are offered the opportunity to take part in championships organised by dental product manufacturers, where students are given the opportunity to improve their professional skills in tooth restoration, gain experience in clinical work with new materials and win valuable awards.
In the first week of September, the RSU International Department (ID) invited colleagues to an informal meeting with international students over a cup of coffee. Carr, Professor of Public Administration and Policy Analysis at Southern Illinois University will give a guest lecture titled Health policy implemented by the US President D.Trump administration: current issues to be held in the RSU Department of Public Health and Epidemiology at 9 Kronvalda bulvāris (Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology, Auditorium 1).
The professor has visited RSU previously and he represents the conservative world view that opposes the Obama healthcare plan.
The traditional Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Academic Meeting was held on 4 September, gathering more than 400 university employees. The meeting began with RSU rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons reviewing the accomplishments of the university in 2018 and reminded of the development paths to be taken in the future. The meeting concluded with the presentation of the RSU E-Awards and Annual Awards in several categories, and the employees enjoyed a musical performance.
On Tuesday 18 September, Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Lee Eric Rubin will give guest lectures in the conference hall of the Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopaedics.
