World-renowned artists Stelarc and Nina Sellars visit RSU Institute of the History of Medicine

On 29 November RSU Institute of the History of Medicine was visited by world-renowned artists Stelarc and Nina Sellars who were introduced to the upcoming and eagerly expected transformations in the shape and layout of RSU Anatomy Museum and had the chance to take a glimpse at the collections and displays of the Pauls Stradiņš Museum for the History of Medicine.

On 15 December, 15.00 at RSU Dental Institute, the associate professor Bengt Hasséus (University of Gothenburg, Sweden), expert in oral health with rich experience in the treatment of oral mucosa (precancerous lesions, oral cancer, chemotherapy, imagining etc.) will deliver a guest lecture on oral health.

RSU professors elected members of the Latvian Academy of Sciences

On 23 November at the autumn general meeting of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) which is the highest decision-taking body of the LAS, Professor Sandra Lejniece of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Diseases was elected a full member or academician of the LAS and the dean of RSU Department of Doctoral Studies, the newly elected RSU rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons was elected a corresponding member of the LAS.

Rīga Stradiņš University has received a ‘Honourable Mention: Writing with Integrity’ in the Turnitin Global Innovation Awards, being recognized by the developer of the plagiarism detection, revision assistant and electronic assessment tool turnitin for its commitment and dedication in promoting academic integrity. Turnitin global innovation awards are presented on annual basis in multiple categories. This year there were 678 nominations received from all around the globe.

The upcoming Riga Stradiņš University International Student Conference in "Health and Social Sciences" 2018 will be held on 16-17 March 2018 at Rīga Stradiņš University, 16 Dzirciema Street in Rīga, Latvia. 
This year we mark the 4th time we welcome not only local but also international students from all over the globe to participate with their wide spectrum of scientific research in various fields but this one is unique because for the first time the Conference will be held for two days.

The academic orchestra "B-sharp" will do a concert entitled "In the Evening" at RSU Great Hall on Wednesday, 6 December. The prorgramme includes "Serenade for the String" by Peter Tchaikovsky and "Evening Prayer" by Juris Karlsons.

The general admission is 5 EUR; RSU  employees are welcome to attend the concert free of charge, but please be prepared to show your RSU ID card.

This exhibition represents a significant part of the study process – an exceptional skill of note taking and ability to use these notes later. The question arises, why many people keep their notebooks from their study years long after they have passed the exams and even have completed their studies.

Here you can see both almost 70-year-old notebooks and notes taken during recent lectures. Along with the copies of notes in the Latvian language, there are also lecture notes from foreign students.

RSU new student hostel at 5 Dārza Street was officially opened on 13 December. The three-storey student accommodation is perfectly positioned right next to the RSU central building, contains 135 rooms, four of which are adjusted to the needs of people with disabilities.

Interdisciplinary educational project "Soul Anatomy"

This autumn Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Institute of the History of Medicine in cooperation with Pauls Stradiņš Museum for History of Medicine and Janis Rozentals Riga Art High School are implementing an interdisciplinary educational project "Soul Anatomy".
