Study environment and methods

Study environment

Studies take place in an efficient, positive, open and collaborative atmosphere. Lecture rooms are equipped with modern, up-to-date equipment that enables an efficient study process. Students are provided with comfortable workplaces for independent work outside the auditoriums, which allow them to prepare for classes on university premises and to complete both individual and group tasks. It is possible to study and carry out independent work outside the university via an e-learning platform on which all course materials as well as the required and recommended literature is collected and made available.

Individual courses are taught in English.

Methods

The main study formats are lectures and seminars including the use of interactive learning and teaching methods such as case studies and problem solving, group discussions, business games, situation task analysis, the development and presentation of individual and group projects.

Students' professionalism is enhanced by regular guest lectures by Latvian or international professionals from the fields of marketing and business management. Previous speakers include Katri Vintiša, Business Management Consultant at the Joint stock company Amber Beverage Group, Valters Kaže, Marketing Director, Uldis Leiterts, a Latvian start-up initiator, guest lecturers from Latvian Art Directors Club and Sylvain Leduc, Professor at the University of Marseilles and others.

Placements, during which students learn business management in the real business environment and apply their theoretical knowledge, are a part of the programme. The purpose of the placements is to ensure students' ability to gain a good understanding of the business environment in Latvia, the European Union and other countries, to take decisions independently in concrete situations, to cooperate in the implementation of certain international marketing or business management projects. The placements will take place at companies, organisations, or public and municipal institutions whose activities are related to international business, marketing or other international activities: Prestol kompozīts Ltd, Joint stock company Amber Beverage Group, Danini Ltd, Cabot Latvia Ltd, Joint stock company HKSCAN Latvia and others.

Students also have the opportunity to go on study exchanges to other higher education institutions and universities in Europe through the ERASMUS+ programme.

This is a new programme that can be very successfully integrated with a full-time job, because the lectures take place on Friday evenings and Saturdays. This is, in my opinion, an important prerequisite for many people who are thinking about continuing their studies. The content is diverse and the knowledgeable academic teaching staff, as well as the industry experts and professionals who are involved in the course make it more interesting. Guest lectures take place as part of individual courses. At these you can hear about how theory is applied in practice. Hearing these experiences is very useful for students. Students who have not had prior experience in a certain sector are given the opportunity to acquire practical knowledge by undergoing a placement in a Latvian company. By filling out course evaluation forms students are involved in improving the programme's contents. Lecturers and the academic staff have always been responsive, welcoming and understanding.
