An appeal for tolerance and healing
Dear RSU community!
Sadly, we continue to receive tragic news from the Middle East, news about thousands of innocent people being senselessly killed and maimed.
From the relative safety of our country, we can see that the suffering brought about by war, even though it is being waged thousands of kilometres away, reaches far beyond its borders. Rīga Stradiņš University is an international university, and we truly share the pain of everyone, and of those among us, who have been personally affected by these events. Every life lost is a tragedy and we all want one thing – for this war to end quickly. I urge you to remain mindful! Hatred and intolerance cannot bring about peace, and we want for RSU to continue being a safe place for our entire community.
Once again, we are categorically against violence in any form, and if any of you experience it, I urge you not to remain silent and to report it, if necessary, to the State Security Service on their 24-hour hotline +371 6720 8964.
I also urge you not to remain alone with your emotions – talk to each other and with your lecturers. Support can be healing, even if it is just being listened to, or hearing someone else. I also encourage you to take advantage of the free psychological counselling provided by the University’s Career Centre.
