For Students

Autumn is the time of year when the main decision-making body of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Student Union (SP), the Council, welcomes new members to its ranks. Every RSU student is invited to apply to be a member of the RSU SP Council. Applications are open from 23 October to 3 November 2023.

The RSU SP Council is made up of 36 members whose main task is to participate in various meetings and working groups, expressing their opinions, sharing their experience, and making important decisions in various areas of RSU SP activities. The duties of a council member also include monitoring the work of the RSU SP Board, electing student representatives to the RSU Senate, Faculty Councils, and other bodies. They also have the opportunity to participate in RSU SP events and seminars as both activists and organisers. Just like every student, members of the Council have the opportunity to put forward their ideas for improving the study process and learning environment not only at their own faculties, but also at other faculties.

Students of each faculty vote for their respective candidates. The candidates with the highest number of votes receive the status and mandate of a voting member of the RSU SP Council. The number of mandates varies from faculty to faculty in proportion to the number of students in the faculty.

The distribution of this year's RSU SP Council mandates is as follows:

  • Faculty of Dentistry: 3
  • Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare: 5
  • Faculty of Rehabilitation: 4
  • Faculty of Medicine: 9
  • Faculty of Pharmacy: 2
  • Faculty of Law: 4
  • Faculty of Communication: 4
  • Faculty of European Studies: 3
  • Faculty of Residency: 1
