Erasmus + Students Explore Riga
38 Erasmus+ students from partner universities have joined Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) this semester. They are very enthusiastic about their studies and about exploring Riga and Latvia.
Walking through the streets of the Old Town towards Alberta iela and visiting the RSU Anatomy Museum are almost a rite of passage when you first arrive at RSU, and the Erasmus+ students can now feel satisfied to have done both. On 4 March, the students took part in a tour of the Anatomy Museum organised by the International Department, followed by a visit to the most significant Art Nouveau buildings.
The Museum's Development Manager Ieva Lībiete welcomed the group to the museum and told them about how it was created, and the building renovated. She went on to guide them through the displays explaining the origin and history of the specimens. By the way, did you know that the Museum has an app, RSU Museum, that helps those who are unfamiliar with medicine to understand the exhibition better? The app highlights several exhibits, and the students were happy to take the opportunity to learn more about them. They appreciated seeing the contrast between how anatomy studies have changed and been supported by advances in technology – there are screens with digital images of organs right next to the specimens.
After an hour at the museum, the Erasmus+ students went on a guided tour to see the Art Nouveau pearls of Riga – the buildings on Elizabetes and Alberta iela. Riga is the Art Nouveau capital of Europe and even if you are a long-time resident of the city, coming to see the magnificently decorated façades, you can spot a new detail you’ve never seen before.
