With the summer holidays drawing closer, the Ambassador of Finland to Latvia, Olli Kantanen, accompanied by the Consul Asta Puolakka paid a visit to Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) to meet RSU students from Finland and discuss diverse topical issues related to different aspects of Finland–Latvia relations, the life of the Finnish community in Latvia and other matters of interest.

RSU medical student from Finland Eveliina Gärdström appreciated the opportunity to meet with the Ambassador, noting that, “It was interesting to learn about cooperation between Latvia and Finland. The atmosphere of the meeting was friendly and informal and turned into a dialogue with the ambassador, instead of formal listening to a presentation.”

The meeting with the Finnish Ambassador was organised within the framework of the programme “Meet the Ambassador” – an initiative launched by the RSU International Department. This was already the second meeting of the Finnish Ambassador with RSU students from Finland.

As recognised by ambassador O. Kantanen, such meetings ensure reciprocity between the Embassy and Finnish students in Latvia. He is committed to continue this tradition of visiting RSU in the coming study year when the RSU international student community will be enriched by freshmen from Finland.

With 151 students, the Finnish student community constitutes the fourth largest international student community at RSU.
