The Rīga Stradiņš University's (RSU) traditional Health Day will take place on Thursday, 12 December, from 10.00 to 14.00, at 16 Dzirciema iela. Staff and students will have the opportunity to donate blood and undergo simple health tests.

You will be able to give blood in the rehearsal room off the Great Hall and undergo simple health tests in the lobby to determine your blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels and body mass index, check your sleepiness and stress levels, test your vision, and learn about cervical cancer screenings. Students from various scientific interest groups are participating in the RSU Health Day and will be conducting the health checks.

The following student interest groups will participate in RSU Health Day:

  • Gynaecology and Obstetrics
  • Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases
  • Pharmacy
  • Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy
  • Gastroenterology
  • Oncology
  • Dentistry
  • Nutrition
  • Ophthalmology
  • Medical Simulation
  • Psychiatry
  • Dermatovenerology
  • Clinical Microbiology and Immunology
Donors must present a valid ID (passport or ID card, eID) and provide their bank account number.

You can give blood if you...

  • are between 18–65 years old,
  • weight no less than 50 kg,
  • have not drunk alcohol the day before giving blood, you have eaten, slept, rested and feel good,
  • are healthy and have not recently been sick,
  • maintain a healthy diet and have had plenty of fluids beforehand,
  • have not given blood at least 9 weeks prior.

International students with a residence permit in Latvia and a Latvian personal code may also donate blood.

According to the World Health Organization, people who regularly give their blood live five years longer on average? Donors’ hematopoietic systems are activated and their immunity improves, they suffer less from acute and chronic diseases and feel positive through helping others. One donation can save the lives of three people.
