Following a decision by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASE) was integrated into Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) on 1 July, while retaining its identity, brand, as well as its academic and scientific autonomy.

LASE will function as a separate structural unit within RSU, under the authority of Assoc Prof. Andris Skride, Vice-Rector for Health Studies, and led by its Acting Director, Assoc. Prof. Kalvis Ciekurs. Its official name will henceforth bes the Rīga Stradiņš University Latvian Academy of Sport Education.

As of 1 July, RSU assumes all the rights and obligations of LASE, developing a coordinated development strategy and creating a unified health and sports science ecosystem. Within the next 3-5 years, RSU aims to ensure high-quality, internationally competitive, research-based higher education and effective governance.

Significant work has already been done, which has included meetings in working groups and aligning study programmes, IT, and other systems. RSU and LASE have successfully started working on joint research projects (e.g., the national research programme Sports) and other interdisciplinary studies.

The key development directions for the joint future of RSU and LASE are digitalisation, research development, internationalisation, and improving the quality of education. LASE's expertise in sports science and paedagogy will be further developed through collaboration. RSU and LASE will also seek opportunities to enhance modern sports infrastructure and develop competitive study programmes.

RSU is a student-centred university that prioritises the continuity and quality of the study process. Therefore, no significant changes are planned in the study process, and LASE students will continue their studies under the current conditions. In the next academic year, the study process in LASE study programmes will continue as usual in Riga, at 333 Brīvības gatve. The the experienced LASE lecturers and administrative staff will ensure the continuity of the study process.
