Newly elected RSU Senate takes office
On 1 October 2024, the Constitutional Assembly of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) elected a new RSU Senate for a term of three years.
The first meeting of the newly elected Senate was held on 22 October, at which the following positions were elected:
- Chair: Prof. Jānis Gardovskis
- Deputy Chair: Prof. Ivars Vanadziņš
- Secretary: Sarmīte Zeire
The following members of the board of the RSU Senate were approved: Chair of the Senate Prof. Jānis Gardovskis; Vice-Chair of the Senate Prof. IvarsVanadziņš; Secretary of the Senate Sarmīte Zeire; Assoc. Prof. Karina Palkova and Alise Antuanete Sniķere, a representative of the RSU Student Union.
About the Senate
The Senate is the highest academic decision-making body of the University. It is responsible for the excellence, development and compliance with internationally recognised quality standards of the University's education, research and creative activities. The Senate regulates the academic, creative and scientific activities of the University. The Senate protects and ensures the academic freedom of academic staff and students within the framework of the autonomy of the University.
The RSU Senate consists of 31 senators: the Rector ex officio, 15 professors and associate professors, 8 representatives of other academic staff, one representative of general staff, and 6 student representatives.
