Research on Factors and Habits Affecting Sexual and Reproductive Health
World Contraception Day is the 26 September every year, and reproductive health was mentioned many times at the Latvian Congress of Physicians and the Latvian Congress of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians. Unfortunately, comprehensive information on the situation in Latvia is more than ten years old (see here).
Meeting of experts from the RSU Institute of Public Health
What has changed since 2011? Where are we in 2022 in terms of achieving the goals of the UN's programme, “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, including Indicator 3.7.1: “Proportion of women of reproductive age (aged 15-49 years) who have their need for family planning satisfied with modern methods”. Hopefully, the study on Factors and Habits Affecting the Sexual and Reproductive Health of the Latvian Population that was launched in September 2022 will help to answer these and many other questions related to sexual and reproductive health.
Rīga Stradiņs University (RSU) in cooperation with the research and consulting agency KANTAR is resuming the research and survey, which was discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The research team includes a wide range of experts – public health specialists and medical statisticians, medical professionals directly involved in the diagnosis and management of sexual and reproductive problems, as well as representatives of NGOs working in this field and public relations specialists.
The researchers will analyse guidelines and policy documents related to sexual and reproductive health adopted in Latvia since 2011, as well as reproductive health indicators available on statistical data portals.
Interviewers from KANTAR will knock at more than 3,000 doors to invite women and men aged 15-64 to take part in the survey and fill in the questionnaire. As the time allocated for the project is relatively short, it is very important that each person is willing to take the time to answer the questions. The results of the survey will have a direct impact on the review and improvement of sexual and reproductive health policies and services in this field. Our involvement will help us and our children and their children live their lives to the fullest and be healthy and happy!
