At the end of September, the accreditation process for the Information and Communication Science study direction, which has lasted for more than a year, was completed at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

The study direction and all eight study programmes implemented therein have received a high result and been accreditation for six years: academic bachelor's study programmes in Journalism, Public Relations, Multimedia Communication and Photography, academic master's study programmes Communication and Media Studies, Strategic Management and Public Relations and Health Communication, as well as doctoral study programme Communication Culture and Multimedia.

Now that the accreditation of the Information and Communication Science directions at all Latvian universities has been completed, we can conclude that the eight study programmes at RSU not only offer very high quality studies, but also unique content that is not available at other universities. Our success is based on the enthusiastic work that the study programme managers put in, on selecting the best professionals in the field from Latvia and many EU countries, linking research to studies, developing the study environment, creating a multimedia studio and Skaļāk (Louder), the largest student media network in the Baltic States.

Prof. Anda Rožukalne, Dean of the Faculty of Communication

Prof. Rozukalne emphasises that 'being rated highly by the international experts gives us additional arguments to advocate for the rights of the students of the RSU Information and Communication Science programme and to get study places paid for from the state budget in the bachelor's, master's and doctoral study programmes. It is known that currently students themselves finance their studies in the social science programmes at RSU.'

The group of accreditation experts appreciated the dynamic development in the direction of the Information and Communication Sciences: since the previous accreditation, three new study programmes have been added, scientific research projects have been expanded, and the media technology and study base necessary for the studies has been created.

During the on-site visit, the accreditation group also positively assessed how available digital technologies are at RSU and the opportunities for students to use the video, photo and audio equipment, the multimedia studio, the photo studio, as well as the high-quality and attractive content of the media network Skaļāk.

During the accreditation process, the possibility to implement several of the study programmes as part-time studies, distance learning, and studies at the RSU Liepāja branch were added. All study programs in this direction will also be offered in English.
