Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Sergio Uribe, a renowned expert in dental research, has been appointed as Visiting Professor at the prestigious Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) of Munich, a top-ranked university in Germany.

In his new role, Prof. Uribe will collaborate with Prof. Falk Schwendicke, a world leader in research on artificial intelligence (AI) in dentistry, to further advance cutting-edge projects in dental diagnostics and treatment. His primary focus will be on the application of AI in the radiological diagnosis of oral diseases, including caries, oral cancers, and facial pain. 

‘It is a great honor to join the Department of Restorative Dentistry at LMU,’ said Prof. Uribe. ‘LMU has a rich history of academic excellence, and I look forward to strengthening the existing ties between RSU and LMU, while also giving international visibility to the fantastic work being done by the research community at RSU.’ 

Prof. Uribe's appointment underscores the growing international collaboration between RSU and leading global research institutions, reinforcing a shared commitment to data-driven healthcare and the integration of AI into modern dentistry. This collaboration will provide a platform for future advancements in dental health and education, ensuring that both institutions remain at the forefront of innovation in AI-driven diagnostics and data-driven treatment strategies. 

About Prof. Dr. Sergio Uribe

Prof. Uribe is an associate professor at the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Oral Health at RSU, and a visiting professor at LMU Munich. He is widely recognised for his contributions to the field of AI in dental research, and his work has been published in numerous top-tier academic journals. He has also led various international research projects focusing on the future of AI in dentistry. He is the editor of the special issue about Advanced Imaging in the Journal of Dental Research.
