International Cooperation

On 17 September, a large delegation from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) in Kaunas visited Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). During the visit, the management of the two universities signed a strategic cooperation agreement focusing on the development of medical technology and educational innovations, military medicine research, and the improvement of simulation-based training.

The two universities have committed to working together to develop new medical technologies using advanced methods such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence. This collaboration will make the learning process more interactive and effective, helping students to master complex clinical situations.

The agreement was signed at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre, the only simulation centre in Latvia and the largest in the Baltic States, which has the infrastructure and equipment to ensure the acquisition of necessary skills in various healthcare fields and to promote patient safety and improve the quality of healthcare in Latvia. The collaboration with LSMU will include the introduction and development of simulation methods in medical education: joint workshops, seminars and faculty exchange programmes will be organised to improve the transfer of knowledge and skills between universities.

Military medicine training and scientific collaboration

Particular attention will be paid to military medicine, with specialised training in trauma and emergency care. Joint courses in military medicine, practical training, and scientific research are planned to contribute to the development of knowledge in this field.

The agreement also provides for active scientific collaboration, joint research, and exchange programmes for students, staff, and researchers. Such cooperation will strengthen the innovative capacity of both universities and ensure an international exchange of experience and knowledge.

The visit marks a new stage in the collaboration between the two universities, which will significantly enhance medical education and research opportunities in both Latvia and Lithuania.
