For Students

This summer, Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) has received the largest number of applications from international students in its history. Among the 1,231 international applicants were students from 85 countries, but 436 young people from 43 countries will start their studies at RSU, which means that there were a total of three applicants for one study place. The majority of students are from Europe - Germany (25%), Sweden (24%), Norway (14%) and Finland (13%). Eight students from Ukraine will also start their studies at RSU this autumn.

RSU's contribution to higher education export has contributed half a billion euros to the Latvian economy over the past six years, and can be expected to exceed one billion euros in the next six years. These calculations are based on a methodology developed by the think tank Certus.

"Riga Stradiņš University is the leading higher education exporter and has had the best reputation among our country's higher education institutions for the past eight years. Every fourth student and lecturer at RSU comes from abroad and the study programmes are synchronised with leading Western universities. The international environment provides students with fantastic experiences and new contacts that they can build on in their academic and professional careers," says RSU Rector Professor Aigars Petersons.

Currently, international students are enrolled in five study programmes, the most popular of which are Medicine and Dentistry. In addition, international students are enrolled in programmes such as Health Management, International Governance and Diplomacy, and International Business and Startups. Each of these offers unique opportunities to build an international career.

To improve its international environment, RSU has expanded the University's network of clinical bases abroad: this autumn, the first RSU branch outside of Latvia will open in Stade, Germany. More than 20 students will start their studies here in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Orientation Week, which is traditionally held before the start of the new academic year, has just started to give new international students the opportunity to get acquainted with the study process at RSU.
