On Wednesday, 6 November, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) hosted the Ambassador of Sweden Karin Höglund and the First Secretary of the Embassy Ylva Hammarsten. During the meeting, the Ambassador was introduced to simulation-based medical education, which ensures a safe, modern and efficient learning process. Cooperation opportunities with clinical medicine centres in Sweden were also discussed.

In discussions with RSU management, the RSU Student Union (Studējošo pašpārvalde, SP) and other representatives of the University, the Ambassador showed interest in the Swedish students at RSU, their opportunities to receive quality education and other topical issues. RSU management highlighted the current successful cooperation with clinical centres in Sweden, where students have the opportunity to undertake internships in their home country, and pointed out the intention to expand the number of internships in Sweden, considering the growing number of students every year.

After the discussions, the Ambassador was given a tour of the University’s simulation technologies, including those used in the military medicine study course. This technology is used to help all RSU students, including 951 students from Sweden currently studying at RSU, to acquire necessary skills. The Ambassador tested her skills in the simulated operations block and highly appreciated the possibilities of modern technologies and the learning in the simulated environment available to students.

After meeting with RSU representatives and visiting the METC, the Ambassador continued her visit by meeting with Swedish students.
