Baiba Pētersone, Ph.D., has held the position of Director of International Department at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) since December 2014. She is responsible for the University’s international collaborations and admissions. In Autumn 2018 she, along with colleagues, established Latvian representation of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s Health Community - EIT Health Hub Latvia. Its aim is to facilitate innovations in the regional healthcare eco-system.
Her experience in higher education spans 15 years during which she has held various administrative, teaching and research positions at several universities. Before joining RSU, she was at Middlesex University in London, Zayed University in Dubai and the University of Maryland College Park in the USA. Prior to her career in higher education, she worked in the non-profit sector in Washington, D.C., including The U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation and The Johns Hopkins University’s American Institute for Contemporary German Studies. Her early work experiences were obtained at two Washington, D.C.-based arts institutions: The Smithsonian Institution and The John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts.
Dr. Pētersone has presented at various international higher education forums: European University Association’s Annual Conference, Academic Cooperation Association’s European Policy Seminar, Eurasian Higher Education Summit, European Association of Erasmus Coordinator’s Annual Congress and many more. She has contributed to such international publications as The Times Higher Education (THE), European Association for International Education’s magazine Forum and Asia-Europa Foundation’s blog Medium.
She earned a master’s degree at the University of Maryland College Park and holds the doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Georgia, both in the United States.
Main areas of responsibility:
- Development and implementation of the University’s internationalisation strategy;
- Coordination of the University’s engagement in international programmes (e.g., Erasmus+);
- Administration of the Latvian Hub of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s Health KIC (EIT Health);
- International student recruitment and admissions;
- Integration of international students, strengthening of multiculturalism and inclusion at the University;
- Cultivation of the University’s international collaborations and partnerships.
