The Paris Olympic Games are over, and Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) would like to thank all the athletes of on the Latvian Olympic team for their perseverance, fighting spirit, and sportsmanship in Paris! A special thank you to the athletes who are alumni of the RSU Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASE), as well as to the team’s management, coaches, medical and technical staff, which include RSU and RSU LASE graduates and whose care, dedication, and knowledge have helped the athletes on their path.

22 students and graduates from RSU and RSU LASE participated in the Olympic Games as part of the Latvian Olympic delegation.

Three athletes who are currently studying at, or have graduated from RSU LASE, as well as nineteen members of the Olympic team’s management, coaches, medical and technical staff are graduates of RSU and LASE.

Pole-vaulter Valters Kreišs has chosen RSU LASE as his place of study, where he is a full-time student of sports science. Sports shooter Agate Rašmane and javelin thrower Līna Muze-Sirmā are RSU LASE graduates.

Three members of the Latvian Olympic delegation management have also graduated from RSU LASE: Deputy Head of the Delegation Andris Lupiks, Press Secretary Marita Vilciņa and cycling expert Igo Japiņš.

In Paris, the athletes were accompanied by their coaches out of which the following are RSU LASE graduates: athletics coaches Gints Palameiks, Mareks Ārents, Raitis Ravinskis, and Andrejs Vaivads; weightlifting coaches Eduards Andruškevičs and Viktors Ščerbatihs; swimming coaches (PhD) Germans Jakubovskis and Jeļena Maļuka; former coach of two-time Olympic champion in BMX cycling Māris Štrombergs, Ivo Lakučs; and shooting coach Vilnis Celmiņš.

The athletes’ health, injury prevention and rehabilitation were taken care of by the Latvian Olympic team’s medical staff, including RSU graduates doctor Jānis Kaupe, physiotherapists Arnis Noveičuks, Oskars Urbanovičs, Valters Brikšis, and Jānis Lācis, as well as RSU LASE graduate Rolands Admidiņš.

Latvian athletes competed in 14 disciplines in Paris: 3x3 basketball, athletics, beach volleyball, tennis, road cycling, mountain biking (MTB), BMX and freestyle, weightlifting, shooting, equestrian, modern pentathlon, swimming, and diving.

The Latvian Olympic delegation included 29 athletes, 35 coaches and their support staff members, as well as 13 management, medical and support staff members.
