The RSU Anatomy Museum Has Begun Setting Up its Permanent Exhibition

Now, at the height of summer, the reconstruction of the Rīga Stradiņš University’s (RSU) Anatomy Museum is finally in its home stretch – the museum is being furnished and work on setting up the exhibition has begun. This comprehensive project will conclude at the beginning of October and the museum will be a welcome new addition to the already expansive museum scene in Riga. Located at 9 Kronvalda bulvāris, the RSU Anatomy Museum will be a special place for anyone interested in getting to know the human body from the viewpoint of a surgeon or an anatomist.

‘Although the building of the Anatomy Theatre (Theatrum Anatomicum) has housed the Anatomy Museum for almost one hundred years, the museum has up until now mostly served as a teaching platform for generations of Latvian doctors. By displaying the museum’s collection developed in early 20th century in the newly-renovated historical stables of the Anatomical Theatre, the museum will not only become an open venue for visitors to explore anatomical preparations, but also a new cultural space for various social, educational and academic activities,’ says Ieva Lībiete, the museum’s Development Manager.

Specialists from the museum are currently working on setting up the exhibition in cooperation with the company DD Studio, who designed the exhibition. ‘We are currently taking an almost century-old museum collection, which has been respectfully restored while the museum was being built, to its new home,’ notes Museum Specialist Ilze Sirmā commenting on the work that started this week. She highlights that the historical collection will be revived in a contemporary multimedia format. From October, the museum will be open for individual visitors, school classes and everyone interested.
