The New Platform Healthtech Invites Students to Innovate Medical Technologies
The educational organisation Junior Achievement Latvia, the pharmaceutical company Novartis Baltics and the academic partners Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Riga Technical University (RTU) and RTU Riga Business School have joined forces to develop the first medical technology innovation pre-accelerator for students in Latvia.
Healthtech – a platform for innovations where prospective bachelor, masters and doctoral students from the fields of medicine, business, IT and others will create practical solutions to various challenges together with medical and technology companies.
The webinars will take place on 14 and 16 December, and applications are open until 12:00 (noon) on 14 December. The pre-acceleration programme will start with an ideation camp on 20–21 January, during which students will create teams and develop business ideas for challenges set by the partners. It is planned to develop the digital solutions in the first phase of Healthtech by May 2022. Programme participants will meet with inspiring leaders, listen to experiences, attend master classes, receive mentor support and develop innovative ideas for healthcare and the public health sector together with leading Latvian technology companies and start-ups. In addition to academic partners, the technology company DataMed and the mobile telecommunications operator Latvijas Mobilais Telefons have now also joined the pre-accelerator programme.
The first phase of Healthtech is planned to be educational. During this phase, participants will gain insight into business and medicine, as well as learn how to link the two sectors.
The next step of the pre-accelerator programme will be dedicated to testing and development – the teams will work with technical and business mentors who will participate in developing the solutions, as well as provide financial support for prototyping. Workshops on value proposition, business models, experimentation, readiness for entering the market and other relevant topics are planned.
During the final phase of the programme, teams will present their work to a jury that will assess the value and the prototype of the products that have been created. At the end, participants will receive information about the next steps of the programme, support programmes that already exist and incubators where they can further develop and implement their ideas.
