New RSU campus for capacity building in studies and research
Following the best practices of the world’s top universities, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has recently commenced an ambitious plan to enhance the university campus at 16 Dzirciema Iela. The plan includes the construction of several buildings around the university's main complex and to modernise facilities improving the landscape for the benefit of RSU students, staff and local community. EU funding for the development of higher education and research infrastructure will be used for the construction of the new campus and to attract human resources thus creating new workplaces, exportable research and high-level education.
This autumn RSU will start the construction of a student hostel at 5 Dārza Iela with 135 rooms, several of them adjusted for students with disability. The hostel will feature rooms for recreation, studies and student organisations, parking lots next to the building and in the basement, laundry, auxiliary premises and bicycle parking facilities.
In addition to the hostel, RSU is planning to expand the facilities of the Faculty of Dentistry at 20 Dzirciema Iela. This building houses the RSU Dental Institute and units of the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. Over the next few years RSU will acquire a number of additional rooms and renovate them by adjusting them to the needs of studies and research.
This past January RSU purchased a 8,913 m2 plot of land on 20 Konsula Iela, next to the main university building, for 1,080,000 euros. This was the last vacant plot close to the RSU main building, and it was purchased with the university's own funds. RSU plans to construct a complex of buildings for studies and research.
