On 5 May, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Vice-Rector for Health Studies Andris Skride and the Director of the Riga City Council Welfare Department Irēna Kondrāte signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement outlines collaboration between RSU and the Riga City Council Welfare Department, introducing paid placements in the department, its subordinate institutions, and Riga’s municipal companies, including Riga 1st Hospital and Riga Maternity Hospital.

The contract also establishes cooperation in the development and implementation of the Social Work in the Healthcare System study module. This partnership includes designing academic content and learning methods based on interdisciplinary collaboration and the latest professional standards in social work. Social services provided in Riga will serve as valuable resources for student research. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to engage in simulations and case studies of various social services in collaboration with the Riga Social Service—an essential component of modern study programmes.

RSU has a long-standing partnership with the Riga City Council Welfare Department. For instance, students enrolled in the Social Work programme are eligible for Riga Municipal Scholarships, provided they commit to working in the Riga Social Service for a specified period after graduation.

This new agreement will significantly expand placement and research opportunities, enhancing educational programs for future social workers and other RSU students.
