For the 9th year in a row, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), the RSU Alumni Association, and The Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation are providing lecturers with the opportunity to apply for targeted scholarships to modernise their courses.

Lecturers who teach social sciences and healthcare subjects submitted a variety of innovative ideas that would benefit students and that follow global trends.

‘RSU's cooperation with The Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation to modernise study programmes benefits not only current students, but also those who are planning to start studying at RSU.

We have had a successful cooperation since 2014, and I hope that it will continue. It is a pleasure to see lecturers who are interested in making the university’s environment more up-to-date and innovative,’ said Artūrs Kaļva, Executive Director of the RSU Alumni Association and a member of the scholarship commission.

In modernising the courses, a lot of emphasis is placed on the use of H5P and Miro tools to create various digital simulations that help students experience real-life situations related to their profession. This aspect is particularly important given that studies have mostly been conducted remotely since the spring of 2020. Emphasis is also placed on introducing study-centred methods to existing or new study courses in order to make the university’s environment more advanced and to enrich students' learning experience.

Raimonds Strods, the Teaching and Learning Project Manager at the RSU Centre for Educational Growth (CEG), reveals that the impact that the recipients of the scholarship have on the modernisation of the study environment is much greater than it may initially seem.

In addition to implementing their innovative ideas in the courses, lecturers who have received these targeted scholarships share their findings and their experience with other scholarship recipients.

They also participate in continuing education activities available to all RSU lecturers organised by CEG. This promotes the collegial culture at the university and helps innovative solutions, good practices, and new ideas circulate through the university.

We are pleased with how actively lecturers have gotten involved in modernising of various programmes and invite more staff to apply for the next round of scholarships that will be announced in the 2022/2023 academic year!
