On Friday, 7 June, the Ambassador of Germany to Latvia Christian Heldt visited the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Medical Education Technology Centre (METC). During the meeting, both parties discussed potential collaboration opportunities in the fields of military medicine and research, as well as plans to expand the network of clinical training centres in Germany where German-speaking RSU students can undergo placements.

At the RSU METC, the Ambassador met with RSU management, the RSU Student Union, and other University representatives to discuss future cooperation opportunities. The Ambassador noted that RSU's strong reputation and achievements in education export are well known in Germany, and showed interest in exploring areas that could be developed to attract both German students and scientists.

The University’s extensive and important collaboration with Germany started more than 30 years ago with the arrival of its first international students. It therefore makes sense that RSU has the largest number of training centres (seven) in hospitals in this country. In addition, the first RSU branch outside Latvia will open this autumn in the German city of Stade, where more than 20 students will start their studies in the academic year 2024/2025.

Following the discussions, the Ambassador was introduced to simulation technologies that help every RSU student learn the relevant skills, including the nearly 600 German students currently studying at RSU. At the end of the visit, the Ambassador continued to discuss topical issues with representatives of the German student community. 23% of RSU’s international students come from Germany.
