Insufficient sleep is a significant indicator of general health in adolescents and is recognised as a growing public health problem globally, a field that is often underestimated and insufficiently studied. It is worrisome that over the last 100 years, the average sleep duration of adolescents has decreased by an average of 70 minutes.

Latvia wins silver and bronze at the European Experimental Science Olympiad

The European Experimental Science Olympiad (EOES) was held in Latvia over the course of seven days, from 29 April to 5 May. The event brought together 230 pupils and their mentors from 23 countries, including Ukraine. The best teams of young biologists, chemists, and physicists were determined during a week full of experiments and challenges. Youngsters from Germany scored the highest points, but teams from Hungary, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic and Estonia also won gold medals.

Department of Sports and Nutrition Paid Experience Exchange Visit to University of Iceland

Three academic and two administrative staff members from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) paid a visit to the University of Iceland (UI) this month within the framework of the European Economic Area (EEA) grant project Staff Mobility Between Rīga Stradiņš University and the University of Iceland to Establish Scientific Collaboration in the Nutrition Field (EEA-GRANT-218) funded by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

RSU and University at Buffalo Sign Memorandum of Understanding That Paves Way for New Opportunities

At the end of April, the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA, hosted a delegation from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), represented by RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons, Vice-Rector for Science Agrita Kiopa, Vice-Rector for Health Studies Prof. Guntis Bahs, Vice-Rector for Administration and Development Toms Baumanis, and Assoc. Prof. Andris Ābeltiņš, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to strengthen the cooperation in medicine and dentistry that began several years ago.

Almost 300 Students and Staff Members Represented RSU at this Year's Riga Marathon

On 7 May, the annual Rimi Riga Marathon took place. Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) was represented in large numbers. This year, 334 runners from RSU signed up for the marathon and 292 of them took part in the race, covering a total distance of 3,831 km.

As in previous years, the highest number of participants entered the 21 km and 10 km races, with 91 and 77 participants respectively. 20 participants ran the full marathon, while 62 participants ran the 5 km distance.
