Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) have announced that the winner of this year’s Pauls Stradiņš Award in Medicine has been awarded to heart surgeon Pēteris Stradiņš (pictured), an RSU Professor and LAS Corresponding Member. Prof. Stradiņš has been given the award for his outstanding contribution to the development of heart surgery, as well as for his significant contribution to preserving the intellectual legacy of the Stradiņš family. The decision has been approved by the RSU and LAS Senates.
On 22 February, 9:30 - 15:00, the international auditing and consulting firm Deloitte Baltics is organising a conference on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on healthcare: Transforming Healthcare with AI. The conference will be held remotely and is free of charge.
As the students are getting ready for the Spring semester to start, we have come closer to the next international students’ Orientation Week organised by our International Department. The online event allows the new students to participate from their homes, airports and new rooms in Riga.
Last semester, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) started offering senior medical students a renewed elective study course in ultrasonography. The course is based on a combination of digitalisation and simulation techniques already used at several European universities. Students' interest exceeded initial forecasts five times over, and the first graduates will sit their exams at the end of January this year.

The Department of Internal Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine together with the Latvian Society of Internal Medicine and the Latvian Association of Haematology are organising an online seminar on the impact of COVID-19 on myocardium and haemostasis on 3 February.
