Assoc. Prof. Marta Urbāne Appointed Dean of the Faculty of European Studies
Associate Professor Marta Urbāne (pictured) has been the Acting Dean of the Faculty of European Studies until now. On 10 January 2023, she was appointed Dean for the next five years. Assoc. Prof. Urbāne has worked at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) since 2009. In her new position, she plans to create an international study environment based on respect, cooperation, and academic integrity.
Assoc. Prof. Urbāne holds a PhD in International Law. During her doctoral studies, Urbāne studied at the Hague Academy of International Law, the Paris International Academy for Arbitration Law, and the University of Salzburg. She completed her master’s studies in Lisbon with distinction, obtaining a professional master’s degree in International Business and Commercial Law. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a first master’s degree in Business Management.
At the Faculty of European Studies, Assoc. Prof. Urbāne has developed and conducted several study courses in Latvian and English. Since 2014, she has been the head of the International Business and Law master’s programme, with a special focus on interdisciplinary study and cooperation with employers.
In order to ensure the link between studies and practice, Assoc. Prof. Urbāne has regularly supplemented her pedagogical and professional knowledge and skills in various fields. She has obtained certificates in supervising and mediating and has become a sworn advocate. Since 2022 she has been an associate professor at RSU.
Assoc. Prof. Urbāne has participated in several research projects and presented her research results at scientific conferences in Latvia and abroad. Her research interests are related to international law.
