On Saturday, February 15, a charity concert titled A Dedication to Love was held at the Sunākste Parish Community Hall, organized by the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Middle Generation Dance Group (MGDG) Ačkups. During the event, MGDG Ačkups donated funds to the group home Vīgante.
Each year, MGDG Ačkups unites for a common goal – to bring joy to Latvian residents in need of support and care. This year, the group organized the charity concert A Dedication to Love in Sunākste, bringing together its dancers to perform some of the most beautiful Latvian stage folk dances.
The concert was hosted by actor Raimonds Celms from the Latvian National Theatre and featured young pianist Fricis Hugo Pērkons, who performed both well-known folk songs and pieces requested by the audience.
Participating in regular folk dance concerts, where concert halls and cultural centers are filled with folk dance enthusiasts, is a joy. However, performing for those who do not often have such a privilege is the greatest joy of all.
We are deeply inspired and honored to bring happiness through dance and stage art to people for whom this may be one of the most memorable events in recent times.
Organizing such a charity concert was truly fulfilling for the dancers of Ačkups," said Kārlis Rācenis, president of MGDG Ačkups and Vice-Dean of Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of RSU.
At the end of the concert, all attendees, including residents of the group home "Vīgante" and the event organizers – MGDG Ačkups – gathered around a shared table for lunch, offering emotional support to the home's residents.
Additionally, the residents of Sunākste Parish delighted the dancers of MGDG Ačkups by introducing them to the sculptural ensemble Gates of Light, dedicated to academician Jānis Stradiņš and the ideals of enlightenment, which are essential for an educated nation. The dancers also had the opportunity to explore other notable landmarks of Sunākste.
