The traditional Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) Academic Meeting will take place in the RSU Main Hall on Thursday, 8 September, at 14.00. At the meeting, RSU Rector, Prof. Aigars Pētersons, will speak about the University's achievements over the previous academic year and outline the University's future challenges.

After the Rector's presentation, there will be a ceremony at which RSU Honorary Doctorates will be awarded. This year, three Honorary Doctors who were awarded the title on 19 May 2020, will be honoured at the meeting:

On 19 and 20 May, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) hosted the International Anatomy Olympiad. Many 1st-year students from the Faculty of Medicine participated. This year's theme was Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective from the novels and stories created by Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

After a two-year break, the Olympiad could be held in person again and took place at the RSU Institute of Anatomy and Anthropology. Nine student teams from RSU participated.

RSU’s New Constitutional Assembly Holds its First Meeting

The new Constitutional Assembly of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) held its first meeting on Wednesday, 18 May. The new assembly consists of 78 academic staff members, 26 general staff members, and 26 student representatives.

The new Constitutional Assembly will serve for the next three years. They will make decisions about the most important aspects of the university – the election of the Rector, the Senate, the Academic Arbitration Court, and other issues.

RSU Prof. Pēteris Stradiņš Awarded the Pauls Stradiņš Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Cardiac Surgery

On Tuesday, 17 May, cardiac surgeon and Corresponding Member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS), Professor Pēteris Stradiņš was presented with the Pauls Stradiņš Award for his outstanding contribution to the development of heart surgery, as well as for his significant contribution to preserving the intellectual legacy of the Stradiņš family. The decision to give this award to Pēteris Stradiņš was approved by the RSU Senate and the LAS Senate.

The Statistics Unit is organizing a guest lecture by Assoc. Prof. Tanja Kirn (University of Liechtenstein) on the subject of future gender gap in pensions. An overview about the central findings will be presented and insights on statistical issues of dynamic microsimulation will also be discussed.

The lecture will be held in English.
