On Tuesday, 11 May, Baiba Pētersone, the Director of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) International Department (ID), represented the university in the Building Bridges (European Education Area 2025) seminar. Pētersone shared the university’s experience of integrating international and exchange students during the pandemic.
EIT Health Latvia has opened applications to a ten-week training programme on artificial intelligence (AI) - HelloAI Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) Online. The programme is organised by the Health Community of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT Health) in cooperation with the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, GE Healthcare Center and the LEITAT Technological Center.
In March this year, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Career Centre and master’s students from the Supervision programme provided lecturers and doctors with free remote supervisions. The demand was so high that almost all places were filled up in the first weeks.
European Researchers' Night took place online on 30 April. More than 4,000 people watched the approximately 200 different activities that 15 Latvian institutions of higher education and research institutes had organised online. The University of Latvia organised European Researchers' Night in Latvia this year and a number of representatives from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) participated – criminologists, chemists, physicists, public health experts, nutrition and sports specialists, statisticians, dentists and medical simulation experts.

After studying and working in Sweden for many years, Dr. med. Ieva Reine has decided to return home to Latvia. Being one of the most promising psychology students, Reine was offered the opportunity to continue her studies and research at the Umeå University in northern Sweden more than 20 years ago. ‘Although I started my studies in Latvia, I obtained all my higher education documents in the field of public health and psychology at the Umeå University,’ Reine explains. ‘I also have a PhD in public health.’
Gunta Lazdāne, Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Faculty of Medicine of Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), and the Founder of the Institute of Public Health, has spent 15 years of her varied and eventful career working at the World Health Organisation (WHO) outside Latvia. In recognition of her contribution, Prof. Lazdāne was awarded the Order of the Three Stars on 20 April 2021.
Today, on 7 May, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is organising collective vaccination against COVID-19 for its students and staff. More than 1,000 employees, as well as local and international students, are expected to receive their first vaccine today.
